Akwa Ibom State Government has described Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as an icon of democracy.
The governor, Godswill Akpabio, represented by his deputy, Mr. Nsima Ekere, made the remark on Thursday in Abuja, at an event to mark Tinubu’s 60th birthday anniversary.
Akpabio said, “We are here to honour a great icon and apostle of democracy, who has brought honour to Nigeria. When he left office as governor of Lagos State, he had served the people more.
“He sacrificed his comfort to fight for the democracy of Nigeria and did a great work for the people of Lagos.
“For us as democrats, we appreciate you for deepening democracy. It is for your great work that we now enjoy the dividends of democracy, and through these dividends of democracy, Akwa Ibom State is a haven of blessings due to the various transformation projects in the state.”
Vice-President Namadi Sambo, who was represented at the event by his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Alhaji Abah Darbo, said he was glad to celebrate a man who deserved to be celebrated because he struggled to free Nigeria from military rule.
The Senate President, David Mark, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, also extolled the rare virtues of Tinubu at the event
